Structurae Modorum is Latin for Structures of the Modes. In writing this piece, I wanted to explore modes, forms, and instruments. In movement one, I used Olivier Messiaen's modes. In movements two and three, I created my own modes. I worked with a variety of forms: binary, ternary, and rondo, respectively, and chose oboe and bassoon, as I wanted to explore the sound qualities of these double-reeded woodwinds, isolating them to deeply focus on and consider their unique characteristics.
